How to clean it
Light fixtures, ceiling fans, and burnt-out bulbs
Nobody looks up while they live somewhere. Everybody looks up during an inspection.
Take down flush-mount light covers and wash them, wipe ceiling fan blades top and bottom, and replace every burnt-out bulb. Missing or dead bulbs are billed at the landlord's cost, not yours.
Flush-mount covers
Most twist off or come away with a single centre nut. They collect dust and insects and are visible from the whole room once you notice them. Wash, dry completely, and refit.
Fan blades have a top
The upper face of a ceiling fan blade holds a thick dust mat. A damp cloth with an old pillowcase slipped over the blade catches the fall rather than dropping it onto the floor you just cleaned.
Replace every bulb
A dead bulb is a line item. Landlords bill their own labour and materials for it, which is never what a bulb costs at a hardware shop. Walk the flat with every switch on and count.
