Cleaning blinds without wrecking them
Blinds are cheap, which is exactly why breaking one is annoying: it becomes a replacement charge on a small item.
Close the blinds one way, wipe across all slats with a damp microfibre cloth, reverse them and repeat. Support each slat from behind as you wipe so nothing bends. Replacement slats cost more than the cleaning.
The closed-both-ways method
Tilt the blinds fully closed in one direction and wipe horizontally across the whole run. Then tilt fully the other way and do it again. This is far faster than handling individual slats and it reaches both faces.
Support from behind
Aluminium slats crease permanently if you press without backing them. Two hands, cloth in front, fingers behind. A creased slat is visible from across the room and reads as damage.
Vertical blinds and the cord
Vertical vanes come off their carriers individually and can be washed flat. Also wipe the headrail and the cord, which are grey on almost every rental.
